c.  Superbowl Party Cancelled! (nothing to see here)

Superbowl Sunday - Feb 2, 2014

Not enough people signed up for this year’s Canaan Superbowl Party challenge, so we’ve decided to cancel it. We’ll try again next year. However, if anyone wants to host a party in their homes, please invite those of us who signed up to join you!

II. Still time to support the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship Asian Pacific conference at Santa Cruz (Feb 7-9)

Becky Chiang-Luoh (IV staff at U.C. Berkeley and Canaan member) has asked us to donate snacks or money for this conference. InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in the Northern California, Reno, and Hawaii region is holding a number of ethnic student conferences to help students to grow in their understanding of identity and how that intersects with faith. Becky is helping to lead the Asian Pacific American student conference this year. They are hoping for several hundreds of college students to attend the conference on Feb 7-9 in Santa Cruz. See a promotional video for the conference here:

III. Come hear from novelist Jennifer J. Chow on Sunday, Feb. 23rd!
Jennifer J. Chow, author of The 228 Legacy, will share about her book and her testimony at English Ministry second hour on Sunday, Feb. 23rd (Worship Hall 3), followed by a book signing in the Fellowship Hall at lunch time. Jennifer is a Chinese-American who married into the Taiwanese culture. The 228 Legacy was inspired by the family stories she heard after viewing photos of a two-million-person human chain commemorating 228. She has traveled multiple times to Taiwan and visited placed dedicated to the incident. Her experience with the elderly comes from a gerontology specialization at Cornell University and her geriatric social work experience. She was interviewed in the most recent issue of _Inheritance Magazine_ where she shares how her Christian faith encouraged her to envision reconciliation in the face of the 228 incident in Taiwan. The link to her book is You can visit her online at

That’s all for now!

See you Sunday!
